Attached to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It is involved in the regulation and promotion of foreign trade through regulation. Promoter and facilitator of exports/imports, keeping in view the interests of the country. Is responsible for formulating and implementing the Foreign Trade Policy with the main objective of promoting India’s exports. Also issues scripts/authorization to exporters and monitors their corresponding obligations through a network of 36 regional offices.

An Autonomous Body of MoEF&CC its functions are to conduct forestry research; transfer technologies developed to states of India and other user agencies; and to impart forestry education.

It has 9 research institutes and 4 advanced centres to cater to the research needs of different bio-geographical regions. These are located at Dehradun, Shimla, Ranchi, Jorhat, Jabalpur, Jodhpur, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Allahabad, Chhindwara, Aizawl, Hyderabad and Agartala.
